We’ve been married six years! We celebrated with a nice dinner out, courtesy of my sister/babysitter, Hannah. We left behind this good-looking bunch…And headed out!
At dinner, I surprised PJ with tickets to the Chick-Fil-A bowl in Atlanta on New Year’s Eve! Texas A&M was scheduled to play Duke, so both his alma mater and a local NC team were playing. Upon opening the tickets, he thought that I had given him Chick-Fil-A coupons. Yep. I consider myself to be pretty good with coupons, but coupons never constitute an anniversary gift. Upon realizing what the gift actually was, he was pretty excited!
This was the first time I had ever planned such a surprise. It was a group effort—one sister agreed to change her plane ticket to stay in NC longer, travel to Atlanta with us, and watch the kids; my other sister purchased the tickets and hotel; my mom funded the ticket change fee; and our friends received the tickets in the mail. In order to keep the plans a surprise, I had to have other people initially pay for all of the trip charges, as PJ would have been a bit tipped off by a bill for an Atlanta hotel and a charge from a ticket vendor. Everyone did their part, and he was surprised!
We headed to Atlanta on New Year’s Eve. My (Aggie!)sister, Hannah, graciously agreed to spend her NYE in a hotel room with our four children. Bless her. They had a fun time celebrating (Seth hated the noisemakers…) and watching for us on t.v.
We ultimately had a great time at the game, although the Aggies got off to a slow start! We even got to meet up with my other sister, Lauren, who was at the game before heading back to Texas. We rang in 2014 right after the game ended while watching the awards ceremony. It was the first time I’ve been awake at midnight in…a lot of years.
Here’s to 2014 and year seven, Lord willing!
