I am so excited to be joining the Compassion Bloggers Network! Once or twice per month, you can expect to see a post related to Compassion and how you can get involved with this fantastic organization!
I’ve written about Compassion and other missional living ideas here, and I’ll repost what I wrote specifically about Compassion:
We supported two Compassion kids before coming to seminary. Honestly, during our sponsorship, I felt like we weren’t doing anything that mattered. It just seemed like a “good” thing to do at a time when we had plenty of money to spend. Since then, however, I’ve learned that these sponsorships make a huge difference in the lives of these kids. They aren’t just pictures on a wealthy American’s fridge—they’re real people, really living in poverty, who really need hope and help. The Lord has grown my heart for suffering people worldwide as we ourselves are in the midst of our own difficult circumstances. As we transition out of the tight seminary budget, I look forward to again partnering with sponsorship organizations.
Update: we’re back to sponsoring a child through Compassion! This time, we have a boy in Uganda who is about Vernon’s age. The kids always love getting letters and updates from him. This time around, I see the sponsorship as a joyful partnership, not just a good place to drop some money. (Although it is a great place to spend your money!)
Compassion has put together a sweet video. Watch Judah’s story below—you may want to grab a tissue!
If you want to get involved with Compassion, you can share this post or the video, join the Compassion Bloggers Network, or sponsor a child! I guarantee you will not regret “releasing children from poverty in Jesus’ name.”
