Making It As A Mom: Takeout Date Nights

Takeout date nights are an easy, inexpensive way for us to connect and prioritize our relationship in the midst of these busy days.

This is a post for 31 Days about making it as a mom. Check out the intro post if this is your first time here!

Who loves date nights?

Who gets to go on dates as often as you'd like?

Yeah, me neither!

Our busy schedule combined with our babysitters' busy schedules means that nights out can be hard to come by. Enter takeout date nights!

When my husband and I need a break from the kids/time together, we do an at-home date night. This involves serving the kids a simple dinner and hustling the evening along. While one of us bathes the little kids, the other goes to pick up food and sometimes a movie (though I will inevitably fall asleep!). We keep the food pretty cheap and simple: Chipotle, Chinese food, or burgers. Then, with the kids in bed early, we have a relaxing evening together without all the usual busyness. Takeout date nights are an easy, inexpensive way for us to connect and prioritize our relationship in the midst of these busy days.

If you can't get out of the house for a date, maybe you could give a takeout date night a try. If getting the kids in bed early won't work out, put them in front of a movie while you and your husband eat a (hopefully!) quiet dinner in another room. If takeout isn't in the budget, you could pick up a box of brownie mix (or cake mix, or ice cream, or whatever you like to bake!) and have a special dessert night at home.

Whatever you have to do to make it work for your family, I encourage you to make time for your marriage. Being a mom can be a tough, tiring job! Taking a break can be so helpful for helping us recharge.

What do you do to take a break if going out isn't an option? I'd love to hear your ideas! Comment below or on Facebook!
